Tournament Director's Statement
The tournament featured a total of 11 boards, 4 on Friday,
4 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday. There were 70 player positions,
with the remaining 7 positions throughout the tournament
filled by the GMs (John Cain, Matt Hastings, Ross Lay
and David Murnane).
I'd like to thank all the players who attended the Championships,
and put up with my usual severe standard of GMing (particularly
regarding negotiations during the builds phase). In particular
I'd like to that Ken Sproat, who stood aside from the
Sunday round when 22 players wished
to play. I'd also like to thank my assistant GMs: Matt
Hastings, Ross Lay and David Murnane. Also thanks to Bill
Brown, Tristan Lee and Jason Whitby who assisted with
a variety of tasks including publicity, the dinner and
trophies.
As a result of a vote by players during the tournament,
next year's Victorian Diplomacy Championships will be
held over four days (Friday to Monday) rather than the
current three days (Friday to Sunday). Also, we have been
alerted by the Conquest organizers that there might possibly
be a change of venue next year, due to the limited number
rooms University High now makes available to Conquest,
however no firm decision has been taken yet.
