Several players were clustered around the top scores, but Craig was a very
worthy repeat winner, with two best countries and a mid-board finish in
his other game. Congratulations! Excellent consistency and skilled
alliance play was also demonstrated by Shane Beck (highest ever tournament
finish, I think?) and Doug Stewart, with 2004 champion Frank Meerbach
always in the mix - and always ready with constructive improvements to
perceived GM shortcomings. As usual with Frank, the lesson can be reduced
to his favourite word: "Check"!

I repeat many thanks to Sean Colman for his help before and throughout the
tournament, especially in providing his laptop. Thanks also to Rob for
playing several GM positions, and to Shane and Andrew who generously
volunteered to be flexible entrants. It was gratifying to see several new
players at a small tournament - I hope they will become regular faces at
VDC meetings this year and at future tournaments. Next VDC on Saturday
April 16!

David
